Happy Saturday To All My Lovely Readers!

I recently had my hair braided in these beautiful cornrows, and completed the look by adorning them with a variety of beads and shells. I've received so many inquires about this style, so today I'm sharing all of the details with you guys. Read on for more photos and the inside scoop on my braids + outfit details!

The Stylist:

For years, the only person that I've allowed to style my hair (other than myself), is my mother. She is the creative mastermind behind my braids.  It took her roughly 2.5 hours to complete the style, not including the addition of the beads and shells. Any stylist that specializes in braids, cornrows, or natural hair can likely recreate this look. Try your local braid shop or your favorite stylist and get creative with it!

The Beads:

I hand selected all of the beads in my hair, and installed them myself. Many of them are adornments that I've collected over the years from various arts festivals in the U.S. and my travels to Ghana. I included a medley of wooden beads of various shades and sizes, natural cowrie shells, gold and silver metallic beads, and antique carved sterling silver beads from Tibet.

Get The Look:

If you're looking to adorn your braids with similar beads and shells, be sure to check out local arts and jewelry festivals in your area. I always find the best adornments at street festivals and local jewelry vendors in DC and New York City. Specialty bead shops are also a great place to browse for unique jewels that will make great additions to your braids. To purchase the gold carved cuffs that are attached to my cornrows, check out your local beauty supply store or any online beauty supply retailer.
